We’ve got some great news: ANIMADOCS is now part of NEW INC – the first museum-led incubator for art, design, and technology. This means we have a new office space and some amazing collaboration projects on the way!
An experimental initiative of the New Museum, NEW INC is a shared workspace and professional development program that brings together more than 100 cultural practitioners and creative entrepreneurs. NEW INC is dedicated to supporting innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship across art, design, and technology. It occupies eight thousand square feet of dedicated office, workshop, social, and presentation space, and each year selects an outstanding interdisciplinary community of one hundred members who are investigating new ideas and developing sustainable practices. Check out the 2016 members cohort!
The program will run for twelve months, members engage in business and entrepreneurial training sessions with seasoned experts and mentors; group critiques; peer-to-peer learning; and critical discourse about the changing nature of culture, technology, and entrepreneurship. Biannual Demo Days and the End-of-Year Showcase offer members opportunities to present their work to the public, while the annual Versions conference, copresented by NEW INC and Kill Screen, investigates how new developments in digital media are challenging and expanding our notions of perspective, perception, identity, and reality. Members also benefit from developing their ideas under the umbrella of the New Museum; they work in close proximity to Museum programming, affiliates IdeasCity and Rhizome, and anchor tenant, the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) Incubator.
We are so excited abut the program and our new Lower East Side space!
This week we are at an unusual event – IdeasCity Athens – a five-day residency that brings together emerging practitioners working at the intersection of community activism, art, design, architecture, and technology in cities around the world. The program’s taking place from the 19th to the 24th September 2016, and will culminate in a free daylong public conference featuring internationally acclaimed speakers from the fields of art, architecture, design, policymaking, and urbanism.

My dear friend cinematographer Dafne Capella (who shot most of my short projects including BETWEEN EARTH AND SKY) was announced winner of 2013 Newsprint Award with her photo project 26 PATIENTS, 1 EMPLOYEE AND 1 VISITOR AT SANTA LUCIA MENTAL INSTITUTE.
Back in Rio de Janeiro Dafne will be working on her newsprint publication consulted by bookdummypress, as well as on her solo exhibition at the Reminders Project Stronghold Gallery in Tokyo, which will be held from Sep. 14th to Oct. 6th, 2013.
The Newsprint Award is seeking contributors who will enable them to publish 24 pages tabloid-size newsprint publication, organize the exhibition production, and cover Dafne’s travel expenses to Tokyo (so far they’ve collected 1/5 of what’s needed). More details and a short interview with Dafne about the project here.
Consider this а pre-order of great portrait photography at discounted rates!
Help make it happen!
Lucy Walker - one of the most amazing social issue documentary directors (Waste Land, Blindsight, Devil's Playground) - just launched her latest film The Crash Reel on HBO, following its premieres at Sundance and Belrinale.
The film tells the dramatic story of U.S. champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce and his recovery from a Traumatic Brain Injury or as the log-line reads "a comeback story with a difference". It combines twenty years of stunning action footage with new specially-shot verité footage and interviews and exposes the irresistible but potentially fatal appeal of extreme sports.
Read more about what made Lucy dedicate over two years to the film, why is it that what we call extreme sports the sponsors call "action sports" and how much risk is too much and #loveyourbrain.
I recommend two Bulgarian films which will be screened tonight at the So Independent fest of contemporary Bulgarian cinema in NYC.
For the fiction lovers - AVE by Konstantin Bojanov and SOFIA'S LAST AMBULANCE by Ilian Metev for the pure verite documentary fans. "The Ambulance" got the Visionary Award at the last Cannes Film Festival.
Both films from 7:00PM at Tribeca Cinemas tonight, see you there!
Happy Holidays and thanks for stopping by!
Stay tuned for more fatal documentary/street art posts in 2013!

Hi to all
So this is my first blog...decided to start with this ROA graffiti simply because I find street art fascinating. You can also see an Instagram widget on the bottom of the web which will link you to some of the fab art I come across on the streets of NY (and sometimes simply weird things my friends or strangers do).
Here is what I plan to post about: projects I work on, films I've seen and street art I find interesting. Hope it makes sense to someone else too and really hope to hear back from people who do!
